Between 2010 and 2020 the National Broadband Network Company (NBNCo) in Australia committed to deliver high speed broadband ‘to the home’ of every Australian. This was the largest capital project ever undertaken in Australia.
The communication, cooperation and change management activities associated with building and implementing the systems for this programme involved hundreds of IT contractors and consultants and impacted 3000 computer users in over 30 contracting organisations.
I led the business readiness team at NBNCo for 18 months between 2013 and 2014. This coincided with some of the first successful broadband ‘go-lives’ in pilot sites. Through complex stakeholder management and programme communications and governance we ensured that sub-contractors, government stakeholders and internal departments were fully equipped and able to adopt technology changes in business systems so that they could maintain the schedule for the broadband rollout.
